vs:      Rangiora (25 August)
score:   0-3

This game was a "catch up" from earlier in the season and we played like our season had already finished. We appeared to be asleep for most of the match and Rangiora was more "hungry" to win. When Rangiora nearly scored from the kick-off, it didn't bode well for the game.

The first half we had plenty of ball but really looked like scoring. Rangiora had 2 chances in the half and converted both, after errors by our team. Too often we let them win the ball, when a bit more pressure on them would have seem a different result.

The second half was much better, but still we were out-played by a team who wanted to finish on a win. Another mistake by a number of players let Rangiora score their 3rd goal. Our chances were limited but finishing again proved our downfall.

Overall Elliot had a very strong game in goal (including one great diving save) and Michael kept trying until the end, but the rest played well below par.

A disappointing way to finish the season, especially after our performances over the last 5 games, but overall, our position of 6th or 7th is probably a fair reflection on our season. We struggled against the top teams, and really didn't put away the bottom teams as well as we should have, but in the end we finished with more wins than losses.

Roll on next season when hopefully we can show the skills that we have to better effect.

Player of the Day: Not Selected
  vs:      Parklands (18 August)
score:   4-0

This game was our last scheduled game, but we now have a "Catch-up" game next week. Parklands are near the bottom of the table and I can see why. They only had 9 players today and struggled to match our teamwork. We were 3-0 up at halftime with goals from Joseph, Michael and Sean. Their attacks were limited to a couple of long range efforts that our defense cut out easily. We should have been more up but failed to convert a number of good chances.

The second half saw Elliot get a run up front and Eddie go in goal. We managed to continue to dominant the half but only finished one of the attacks, a season first for Josh B after a goal mouth scramble.

The whole team performed well. The only downside was our lack of finishing. We had too many chances to count but too often our final touch was lacking.

Next week we play Rangiora who are above us on the table, so this will be a good game to finish the season on as we can see how we've improved over the last month.

Player of the Day: Joseph
vs:      Ferrymead Bays A (11 August)
score:   2-1

This game was very similar to the game we had against them at the start of the season. We dominated possession for the majority of the game and restricted them to just a couple of scoring opportunities. Our first goal came mid way through the first half when Michael managed to finish a goal mouth scramble. This was our only real chance of the half as their goal keeper was very solid in goal.

The second half followed the pattern of the first. We had a chance early when Rory hit the crossbar with only the keeper to beat. He made amends soon after when he finished off another goal mouth scramble to give us a 2 goal lead. Bays had only 2 chances in the half, one expertly cleared by Antonio when a goal looked a certainty and the second resulted in a goal when the defense got tangled up and failed to clear.

The last few minutes were played in the oppositions half ensuring that our 2-1 lead wouldn't be threatened.

Everyone played well in the game. The first half was as good a performance that the team has displayed all season. The second lacked a bit of cohesion but overall it was a pleasing performance, and a good win!

Thanks to the 3 1oth Grade Premier players who filled in for us today. They added to the performance of the team and showed some great ball skills.

Player of the Day: Antonio
vs:      Christchurch United Rams (4 August)
score:   1-0

We were back at Barrington today. So much for the ground being out for the rest of the season!

The first half of this game was as good as it gets. Both teams played great football, with good teamwork and skills shown. The ball was going from one end to the other with the defenses of both teams looking strong. In the end it took a determined effort from Charlotte, who three times fought for the ball and got the cross in for Sean to finish. 1-0 at half time was a fair reflection of the game.

The second half didn't quite match the first, but it would have been hard to maintain that standard. Both team had chances to score but in the end both defenses proved too strong.

Overall, the team played well. Steven, Josh B, Antonio and Finn controlled the back, with Elliot again keeping a clean sheet in goal. Michael, Josh M, George and Sean controlled the middle, with Charlotte and Joseph good up front. We were very strong on the right, with Antonio, Michael and Charlotte combining well. Finn although playing in the back, helped control the middle of the park.

In the end a great result that pushes our team above the Rams in the points table.

Player of the Day: George
  vs:      Kaiapoi A (28 July)
score:   1-0

Our game today was moved from our home ground of Barrington to South Hagley. It looked like our opposition weren't going to make it for the game but they finally arrived 15 minutes before kickoff.

This game mirrored last weeks game. We totally dominated the proceedings but were not able to finish off our numerous chances. Finn got the only goal of the game midway through the first half from a brilliantly taken free kick. He managed to get it over the wall and the end result was that the shot was too hard for their keeper to stop.

The second half was a continuation of the first, with Cashmere having a number of chances to make the game safe. Finn hit the post with a fine effort from the edge of the box, Joseph, Sean, Michael, Josh M, Charlotte and George all had efforts either go wide or saved. It just wouldn't go in!

The defense played strongly. Elliot, Antonio, Josh B, Steven and Eddie all contributed well, along with Rory in the midfield. Kaiapoi had a few breakaways that looked dangerous and could have equalised on a few occasions in the half, but we managed to keep them out.

Overall a good win. The final score flattered Kaiapoi but they did hassle well in defense and their keeper certainly kept them in the game.

Player of the Day: Josh M
  vs:      Burwood B (21 Juy)
score:   3-1

It was nice to get a win, our first since the start of June. This was a game that we dominated for almost all the match, but struggled to finish our chances, so the result was closer than it should have been.

The first half was all Cashmere. Burwood never looked like scoring, while we had numerous chances, but couldn't finish. Their keeper played well, being in the right position most of the time. We finally managed to get on the scorecard just before halftime. Finn got the ball at the edge of the box and slotted it home, thanks to a slight deflection off a defender.

The second half started with a rush and the pressure in the goal box was too much for Burwood as one of their defenders scored an unfortunate own goal. 2-0 up, we should have pulled away. Instead, Burwood managed to score after a slight defensive lapse and a good finish by their striker who kept his head in the 6 yard box. Midway through the half, Finn added his second goal of the match, with another firm shot from the edge of the box. Burwood had two good chances to score, but our defense held firm, including a great stop by Elliot who came well off his line to cut-off a dangerous attack.

Overall this was a pleasing result with everyone contributing to the effort. To get a win will boast the team moral, leading into the last 5 games. Hopefully we will build on this and finish the season on a high note.

Player of the Day: Finn
vs:      Woolston Technical A (14 Juy)
score:   1-5

After a break of two weeks for the school holidays and the cancelled game and practices due to bad weather, this was the first time in 3 weeks that the team had got together. Our opposition were the leaders in the competition.

The game was played in very cold conditions after a heavy frost. The first half was played mostly at our end of the field but we managed to hold firm for most of the half. A couple of quick breaks by Technical resulted in goals. 2-0 down at half time didn't really reflect how we performed.

Another goal soon after the break had us in deep trouble but we rallied back well to dominate the next 10 minutes of so. Sean managed to score for us in this time (our first for a while) and a number of near misses, along with some good saves by their keeper, could easily had seen us draw level. Another couple of goals in the last few minutes by Technical sealed the game for them.

5-1 wasn't really a fair reflection on our performance, but again the opposition made better of the chances they had. We need to make a greater commitment in winning the 50/50 balls as these are being won mainly by the opposition.

Player of the Day: Michael
  vs:      Rangiora A (30 June)
score:   Cancelled

After a day of very heavy rain, this round was cancelled by Mainland Football. We now have a break of two weeks for the school holidays.

Player of the Day: Not Selected
  vs:      Rolleston A (23 June)
score:   0-4

This was a tough game today. We were 1 player short, with a few players ill, and the day was cold and icy, after a heavy frost.  Rolleston were a well drilled team that played well together, with their fast breaks catching us out a few times. Overall they were just too strong.

The team performed well in the first half, defending very strongly. We managed to hold Rolleston to 0-1 in the half. A couple of great tackles by the last defender and good keeping by Elliot meant that we were still in the game at the break.

In the second half Rolleston started to apply more and more pressure. We were able to keep the score down through some great defense, especially Antonio who managed a couple of last ditch sliding tackles to save the day, and with Rolleston being over eager and getting offside. The volume of ball that Rolleston had eventually paid off and they managed to get 3 more goals in the half.

The team didn't stop trying and ran their hearts out, but in the end it wasn't enough. We had limited opportunities up front and struggled to get the ball out of defense on a number of occasions. Rolleston's superior skills in the end made the difference.

Player of the Day: Charlotte
  vs:      Avon A (16 June)
score:   0-3

We woke up today to a cold and wet morning. This seemed to affect the team as they never really got out of 2nd gear.

When we played Avon in the grading game, we dominated them all over park, but today, the exact opposite was the case.

The first half saw Avon score twice, both from defensive lapses. We were too slow clearing the ball under pressure and Avon managed to latch onto the ball to score.

The second half mirrored the first. Avon looked dangerous on a number of occasions and we struggled to get a shot on goal. In the end another lapse at the back let them score their third goal. In all cases, Elliot in goal wasn't to blame. He had a good game and stopped many other potential chances.

Overall a very disappointing game. We started slowly and never got going. Too many players stopped and watched the ball, rather than get stuck in to win it. Hopefully the team will pick themselves up for next weeks game against one of the weaker team in the competition.

Player of the Day: Finn
  vs:      Burnside A (9 June)
score:   1-3

This was always going to be a tough match as Burnside is one of the top three teams, and last week drew 2-2 with Burwood A, the team that has beaten us twice this season.

If you'd been an outsider you wouldn't have guessed that. We totally dominated this game but in the end three errors in defence cost us their three goals. We had numerous chances but were only able to finish one.

The first half ended 0-1  after Burnside jumped on a loose ball near the penalty area and finished well. Other than that we played the game almost entirely in their half.

The second half started well for us with Rory finishing off a good period of play down the left. After a number of throw ins, Michael managed to get a cross into the middle for Rory to finish. Another mistake at the back allowed Burnside to draw ahead, against the run of play.

We then had two great chances to equalise. First a shot from Joseph was brilliantly saved by their goallie, one like you'd see on the sports news, and then just before fulltime when Sean put the perfect through ball but unfortunately Steven couldn't finish. From the keepers clearance, Burnside managed to get the ball down the other end and score.

The final score of 1-3 was in the end not a fair reflection on the game, but that is the way football sometimes ends up. 2-2 would have been a better result, but it wasn't to be!

Player of the Day: Rory
  vs:      Nomads A (2 June)
score:   3-2

This was a vast improvement on last weeks performance. The game was played between two evenly matched teams with Cashmere making better use of their chances to finish the victors.

The game started with Cashmere dominating early which lead to two well taken goals, the first by Joseph and the second by Steven. The second goal was the result of good teamwork and inter-passing on the left side of the field before a good centering cross found Steven.

Nomads managed to score late in the half and were denied a second by Eddie who headed a dangerous cross over the bar.

The second half had Nomads making most of the play. We appeared to relax too much and let them back into the game. Sean managed to score our third goal from a good break down the right, but Nomads scored from the kick off with some great interchanging between three players. They continued pressing for the equaliser and right on fulltime managed to provide a great cross into the box but their striker was unable to get a foot onto it and it passed harmlessly past the post. The ref then blew the whistle and we had managed to sneak a win.

This game was a great improvement on last week but there are still areas that we can improve upon. Roll on next week!

Player of the Day: William

  vs:      Burwood A (26 May)
score:   1-5

This was a "wake-up" call to the team after a good start to the season. We played this team earlier in the grading games and were lucky to come away with only a 2-3 loss. Today however, the oppositions skills were more evident, and we were really never in this match.

It started well enough when one of our first attacks resulted in a goal. A move down the left, followed by a good cross put pressure on their defense and they could only guide the ball into their own goal. This lead was short lived. From the kick off Burwood pressed our defense and scored almost immediately. 1-1 at half time was a good result for us as we hardly had a shot on goal all half, whereas they were always dangerous.

The second half was all Burwood. We managed to hold them for 15 minutes, but then the floodgates opened. In the end they scored 4 more goals, as our teams heads dropped further and further. The defense worked overtime and in the end they couldn't hold.

Burwood's superior skills in the end shone through. Hopefully we will learn from this game and make the necessary improvements.

Player of the Day: Antonio
  vs:      Rangiora B (19 May)
score:   2-0

This was the first game of the season proper. After the 4 grading games, we were placed in the top section.

Our opposition this week were completely dominated by the boys today. They probably only had 2 chances the whole game, whereas we had too many to count. Unfortunately our finishing this week was not that good and as a result, the score line was closer than it should have been.

Sean scored after 10 minutes after Rangiora failed to clear from a goal kick. He was quicker to the ball than the defenders. This was the only goal of the half. Too often we we caught with the ball rather than passing to an open player.

The second half was better, but it wasn't until 8 minutes from the end that Michael managed to seal the game after a good series of passes between the team on the left.

The defense played superbly with Elliot, Antonio, Finn, William and Eddie stopping all their attacks before it got too dangerous. Josh's B and M, along with Rory and Michael controlled the midfield, leaving Sean, Steven, Joseph and Charlotte providing the attack.

With a bit more luck and better passing we could have won this game more comfortably, but still it was a good way to start the competition with a win.

Player of the Day: Josh B
  vs:      Burwood A (12 May)
score:   2-3

Today's game was even better than last week. The opposition were extremely strong and strung together numerous passes. The first half we were hardly in the game and their 2-0 advantage was a fair reflection on the half.

The half-time pep talk must have done wonders as Joseph scored within 2 minutes of the restart. Joseph added a second not long after and all of a sudden Burwood looked vulnerable.  Both teams pushed for the winner, and unlucky for us, Burwood managed to get it 5 minutes from the end.

All the team played well, but it probably was Burwood superior teamwork that in the end made the difference. In the end Burwood were the better team on the day and deserved to win. We can however take heart from the fact that we could just as easily have scored the winner too.

This was our last grading game and after our results, I'd expect us to be in the top section and have a chance to reverse this result.

Player of the Day: Steven

vs:      Avon A (5 May)
score:   4-2

Today's game was a real cracker. The Avon team was well drilled and their preparation before the game was significantly better than their Premier team who played on the pitch next to us. Right from the start Avon looked good, impressive skills but they lack the finishing that was required. Our team however took most of the chances that came their way. The first goal was a brilliant effort from Finn. The ball from a corner made its way to Finn on halfway, and he let fly with a superb volley that the goalie couldn't handle. Next goal was equally as impressive, but this time due to team work. Josh M made a good run down the left and centered perfectly for Joseph to finish with a great volley. 2-0 at halftime a fair reflection on proceedings.

The second half mirrored the first half, except this time Avon scored. This was starting to look like last week when we lead 2-0 only to concede 2 goals, but not this week. Sean managed to score a couple of good goals before Avon pulled one back.

Everyone played well today. This was a great result for the team as Avon had won 6-1 last week.

Player of the Day: Elliot

vs:      Papanui Redwood Cobras (28 April)
score:   3-2

Today's game was played in wet and cool conditions. We got off to a good start with Sean scoring early and an own goal giving us a 2-0 lead. We were totally dominating proceedings until Pap/Redwood scored a good goal from a break. This was followed by a 2nd for them from a corner after we failed to clear the ball. We were still creating chances but their goalkeeper had an outstanding game pulling off a number of saves. With about 5 minutes left, Charlotte made a good break down the right which she finished off with a shot that was to hot to handle by their goalie to give us our first win.

This was a fair result as we by far had the better of the game with Sean, Josh M and Charlotte strong up front, the midfield, defence and Elliot in goal playing well.

Player of the Day: Sean
vs:      Ferrymead Bays (21 April)
score:   1-1

This was the first of three or four grading games to determine which section in 11th grade our team will play. It is important that these games go well to ensure that the rest of the season is against evenly matched teams.

After a very slow start, where the early season showed, we conceded an early goal. At the halfway point of the first half we started to come right and strung a number of passes together. This led to our dominance in the second half but it took until two minutes from the end before we equalised.

All the players performed well for a first hit-out and the 1-1 result was a fair reflection of the game. Ferrymead Bay, although they had limited attacking changes, the ones that they had were effective.

Player of the Day: Eddie
